Depth of Field from point attribute instead of camera distance.

Hey guys

 

I've done a lot of googling and searching on this to no avail..

Is it possible to render 3d depth of field that is based on a point attribute instead of the function of distance from camera that mantra uses.

For instance using this you could render real  3d blur as a function of distance from a central point, or distance from a surface, or even from a 3d fractal value.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give on this.
