Crowd - transition out of ragdoll back to animation state

I'm working on a shot where my crowd ragdolls but I want a few to get back up afterwards or have some of the other roll around hurt. I can create a new state with a plausible match in major posture for specific agents but they still just pop from the ragdoll state to the intended state. It looks as if the crowd ragdoll isn't passing back any skeleton information to be able to state blend. 

Even a hack solution to manually snapshot a skeleton frame into a temporary 'pass through' state would work for me but I can figure out how to get anything back out of the ragdoll sim. Is it even possible? Any Ideas?
