Popmatch Dop Using Point Attr?

hey all

i posted this over at sidefx page, and i hate double posts, however i was wondering if anyone here can help me solve this question ;)

i want to have an object inflate, but some areas inflate faster than others.

how can popmatch dop read values from point attributes in sops ?

-therefor have attributes on ur sop drive how much the popmatch restores the geom (ie a texture map that can be animated)

a typical example in sops would be

point ("/obj/cellSupport/grow", $PT, "grow",0)

placed in the restoration stength, however popmatch dop doesnt like $PT,

is there a work around for this

thanks in advance and sorry once again for double posts

brian

This is a copy of my reply in the SESI Forum:

What you are really asking is, can POP Shape Match values be set per point, as opposed to having a single value overall. And the answer is no - you can't currently do that. But it's a reasonable request, so I've turned this into an RFE.

I can't think of a good workaround for this - I tried breaking an object up into separate shapes and setting separate values per shape, but then they don't behave as a single object any more. The only thing I can think of is to have multiple versions of the shape, with different settings, and then do some blending between them, with per-point blend weights. But that doesn't seem like a very good solution, I admit.
