Looking for some Best Practices for Optimizing Large Houdini Scenes ??

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I have been working on a large-scale environment in Houdini and I am running into some performance issues. The scene has a lot of geometry.., multiple simulations and heavy textures. My viewport is slowing down and rendering times are getting quite long.

I have already tried a few things :-

Using Packed Primitives to optimize geometry
Lowering viewport display settings
Baking out simulations instead of running them live
Using LOPs and USD for better scene management

Even with these optimizations.., things still feel sluggish at times. I was wondering if there are other best practices that more experienced Houdini users follow to keep large projects running smoothly.

Would love to hear your thoughts on :-

Efficient caching methods (especially for complex Vellum and FLIP sims)
Best way to optimize shader and texture workflows
Any hidden Houdini settings that can help performance

Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks in advance.

With Regards,

Daniel Jose
