Tamis
Hey guy's, I'm having problems with Houdini on my Ubuntu machine I already posted this question at sidefx.com but sins some people don't regularly check there i figured id post the same question here. also i apology's for not posting in the linux section but before i had this problem i didn't even know there was a linux section so i don't think there are many people watching it at the moment. Sins i am experiencing this problem for over 2 weeks (which is slowly driving me insane) i am going to be so rude to post my question here: I'm running ubuntu64 on a Asus motherboard AMD64 X2 4400+, and i'm using a newly purchased NVIDIA Geforce8500GT graphics card. Now here is my problem, i used to have a NVIDIA Nforce4, it worked fine with Houdini only not with other program's. so that's why i bought the 8500GT. now the weired thing is is that Houdini dosn't work properly with it but other program's do,. the problem is is that Houdini isn't displaying any icon's. And playng with the settings didn't result to anything better. also yes i turned of desktop effects, and try'd deleting my Icons folder which dosn't get recreated when restarting houdini. Here is a link to the same post at the sideFX website: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com...p;p=54948#54948 and further more a picture of my problem: Edited March 16, 2008 by Tamis
anamous
How did you turn off the desktop effects? just in the Ubuntu settings menu or did you edit the xorg.conf file with stuff like disabled composite etc.?
Tamis
Issue resolved thanks to Pagefan (thanks dude). Turned out that Houdini needs a folder /home/<user>/houdini9.1 only that folder had root access only, so it couldn't write to it. anamous: i turned it off in the Ubuntu's settings menu.
