PrettyBoyTim
Hi folks, I just thought I'd say hello. I've just started using Houdini to create some models for a game I'm writing. I'm not much of a modeller but currently I'm working at knocking together a model a a WWI biplane (Sopwith 1&1/2 Strutter) from a 3-view. I chose Houdini because it looks as if it'll be the best choice for exporting to my engine of choice (Torque X) at a reasonable price, as Torque export is supported in the $99 Houdini Apprentice HD edition. I had tried Blender and Truespace, which both have the advantage of being free, but I wasn't able to reliably get geometry from them into the game. Once I've got my model finished I'll probably take a leap of faith and buy the HD edition and hope the export works well. It should do - it's described on the GarageGames site as being the best Torque exporter out there. I came across Houdini a little back when I worked in the R&D department of Framestore, but back then most of the company was using Maya so that's what I had most exposure to. I imagine there's not a great number of people doing low-poly stuff for games here, but if there are, feel free to drop me any hints and tips on using Houdini for this kind of project; I'm doing okay banging along and learning things by myself, but I'm sure there's a lot of little things that would make my life easier Cheers, Tim
