  1. I just came back from b´Ars, a recent VFX festival here, in Barcelona, where for two days we had several very nice presentations from ILM, Pixar, DNeg, Framestore, MPC and the likes. Without trying to underrate any of these very nice talks from such heavyweights, I was floored by the absolutely awesome, inspiring, direct, and simply beautiful work presented by Digic Pictures. Mr. Szabolcs Horvátth, which if I´m not wrong, is a Lead TD over there, laid out simply, without hinting any hidden techniques or tricks, the work done for the latest Witcher 3 cinematic. I´ve been at plenty of these festivals, including but not limited to SIGGRAPH, and usually, companies present some work and keep a reasonable balance between the techniques used and some eye-candy for the less technically-inclined, but the feeling for this very talk was that he was really trying to show us without any reservations every step from their actual workflow...which in my mind was a really clever thing because when I realized there weren´t that many things I didn´t know, what was left was simply the fantastic talent they clearly have at the studio. Frankly, I asked a question regarding motion capture because I think it was the only aspect that Mr.Horvátth didn´t talk about, and as with everything else, he replied flawlessly covering every posible aspect of the workflow. After almost 15 years in the industry I´m not that easily impressed, but I left the talk inspired and speechless. The fact that these guys made THAT work in roughly 4 months escapes my understanding. If I wasn´t tied to Barcelona for strong personal reasons, I would try to get a job there and live in Budapest in a wink... ...awesome.... no, seriously....
