Display Particle Origins - give me the goods

If you turn on Display Particle Origins you can see the vectors defining the local coordinate system for each particle, the Z vector is velocity so that's easy to get access to, but how can you get access to the up vector? I know you can populate the Up Vector POP on birth but I can't seem to get the values to match up with the local coordinates. I'd love to know how to get direct access to those vectors/matrices, but if that's not possible I'm hoping someone can at least tell me how to get an accurate up vector. Seriously though, doesn't it seem like up should be available along v in the VOP globals?

Thanks in advance!
