pyro rendering question

I've been trying to create a simple exploding wall animation using point velocity for the wall breaking, and a pyro fireball to make it look cool.

The problem I keep having is the pyro fireball does not get rendered when I'm doing tests using the render tab. I do have a mantra node, camera, and point light in the scene.

I've restarted the project a few times, b/c I thought it was a bug that could be fixed, but I keep getting the same result: no pyro being rendered.

This last time restarted, I even created the pyro effect first, it looked good, showed up in the early renders. Then when I start to model the wall that is going to be cracked and exploded, the pyro is absent from the renders.

I've tried using separate DOPnets for the pyro and shatter velocity. no luck

Heres my latest attempt, if anyone can give me a pointer on where I might be going wrong, it would be much appreciated. Just trying to get the wall and the pyro to render at the same time.
