Clumping fur using Mesh

Hey. I want to be able to clump my fur using mesh, say for example exported cones from a different software, lets call it Maya :P

The cones are skinned to the character and deforms properly. I have no problem getting clumping, parting and so on to work nicely, and of course I can do the clumping when I groom it instead using the guides, But using the cones instead could shave of some time when simulating dynamics as well as making it "easier" groomingwise.

Normally when I do my clumping I use a second fur node that I then build the clumps with, this way I have pretty decent control over how the clumps are supposed to look, but not very good control over where they are supposed to be. I also have really poor control over the amount of hair in each clump(however this is something I should be able to solve easily once I actually try to).

So basically what Im wondering is, does any one know if there's a way to actually use mesh instead of guides to do the clumping? It should be noted that I use guides from a different software so I do not use the preset fur node in Houdini, but the on you have to set up yourself.

cheers / Norse
