3ds max 2010 to Houdini 10 then back to 3ds max

I've read several posts here about using FBX and Mel scripts to export from Maya to Houdini and the other way around, but I haven't seen anyone talk about 3ds max.

Has anyone does this with any level of success. I want to maybe do some particle effects in Houdini but render in 3ds Max using VRay.

I'm only going to do this if it's easy ;)
