DeehrBYU
Hi all, I'm setting up a dynamic sim with wires to get some nice looking straw that will be used on the floor of a rhino cage. The problem is that when the wires settle, they are interpenetrating each other. I have done everything I could think of to keep this from happening including: 1.) Raising the number substeps on the solver up to 4. 2.) Increasing wire thickness to .1 more than the polywire radius that I hook on at the end. (however, if I increase it too much, everything just freezes in the air. ) 3.) Tweaking volume offset (in the wireObject DOP under "collisions" 4.) Increasing number of points on my "line" SOP. this definitely didnt work. Just made it more like spaghetti. The Sim setup still needs some work, but I really need those polywires to not be intersecting in the end. Thanks to anyone for their help in advance. I attached my HIP file if you would like to open it up. IzzyStrawSIM.hipnc Edited May 14, 2010 by DeehrBYU
sam.h
Have you turned on self-collisions on the wire object?
DeehrBYU
Have you turned on self-collisions on the wire object? That's something I haven't tried. I didn't think to because the wires didn't ever seem to bend enough to penetrate itself. But I'll give it a shot, thanks.
DeehrBYU
Problem solved. It was self collisions. Thanks.
