Symbolic
Hi, I have seen that these has been a pot on this: However, It was not very clear to me, in terms of how to achieve this effect. I am trying to get some "wrinkling" around the limbs of a creature (animal). Is this usually a custom deformer or are there already built in Houdini tools for that? (I am not very familiar with character stuff in Houdini) Maybe a sopsolver? Maybe a cloth thing? Any ideas? Thanks.
theflu
hey, for bigger wrinkles you can setup blendshapes if your mesh is dense enough. otherwise i think a common way would be blending displacement or bumpmaps. ulf
Symbolic
Like? Like blending between a wrinkled model and non wrinkled one?
Macha
A random idea I might try out if I have time: ◎ Create an attribute that stores the rest position ◎ Measure the displacement from that rest position ◎ Use that value to drive the amplitude of a vopsop that displaces the geometry (along normals) based on a noise and/or trig function. Perhaps the noise or waves should be calculated from UVs rather than point positions so that its always linked to the surfaces and doesn't swim about. Something along those lines perhaps... One of these days I will dive into Houdini character work, It's one of the things I'd like to do learn more about. Symbolic
Thanks Macha, I was thinking about the same thing. The hard part I guess is the look of the wrinkles. If it is not dynamic, it will be hard to get the correct shapes etc. But, nobody said it is an easy task I am investigating it. Thanks. theflu
Like? Like blending between a wrinkled model and non wrinkled one? heres a quick example of blending in a ugly displacement map (i'm sure theres a "better" or more elegant solution though..) wrinkles.rar
