hopbin9
Hi, I have a nice panoramic image of a landscape wrapped around a hemisphere using cylindrical mapping, then using this geometry as a light source for the light. The renderings look awesome, but have now doubled in duration when compared to using the Environment Light. The other problem I have is that I don't know how to convert a panoramic image into the cubic mapped format the Houdini prefers. Can anyone help me with this? cause right now it's take 40mins per frame on a 12core machine compared to 8mins with Environment Light. Thanks,
hopbin9
Sorry, the env light isn't much faster. Just remember that I increased the size of my photon map between tests. The seem seem to be about the same speed (slow...) Still, I'd like to know how to convert the image file. Thanks,
Macha
Try .rat format (use mplayer to convert). If it is just as a light source it doesn't have to be big. Low samples , below 1, is OK as long as render samples are high enough.
rob
Well if you are using the map just for the diffuse lighting there is no reason why you cannot make a low res blurred version of your panorama with that as the source. Also there is nothing wrong with using a Lat/Long Spherical map at all. Rob
