Texture Fluid Surface

Hey all, I have a slow moving SPH simulation (no reason why it couldn't be flip really if it makes a difference) and I want to be able to add some bump detail/textures to it that follow the movement of the particles.

I found this paper, but it's too complex really for what I need it for:

Has anyone got any ideas of ways to approach moving textures on a fluid surface?
