displacement pass

Recommended Posts

Hi

could somebody share a setup to use to create displacement pass?

thank you

Hi Brian,

could you explain a little bit further what it is you are aiming for? There's no such thing as a displacement pass, as it is the actual geometry that is changed by the displacement and this will influence every pass you render. Passes or AOVs are just possible in a surface shader context but not in a displacement shader context.

Are you trying to create a displacement map for a low res model?

Do you want your B/W displacement information as a single pass?

For relighting in compositing you might take a look at the "Show normal" Material from the Material Palette. This should provide you with a normal pass you can use.

As for your displacement map I'm still not 100% sure what you mean.

So you just want to displace your surface to get a rough surface appearance in your renders? In that case you can just use the "Mantra Surface" Material from the Material Palette which has the ability to use displacement maps and displacement noise built in.

Hope this helps.
