DaJuice
Hey all, Before the sidefx website received an overhaul, I remember there was a section which showed you how to make a normal texture map into a .rat file. Does anyone know the procedure or any other information? If I got it correctly, the whole point is to conserve memory at rendertime, is that about right? I only have 512MB ram in my machine, and between Houdini, Photoshop, and a bunch of big textures files, my computer is not happy. Lot's of chugging can be heard when I hit the render button, or actually when I try to do pretty much anything. If, .rat files save on ram, that would be a big help. Thanks! DaJuice
Ahh, look what I found, all that old stuff is still there. http://www.sidefx.com/support/notebook/webrat.shtml Pretty cool stuff. The only issue I see is that icp (appearantly) requires .pic or picnc files to convert to .rat files. With the Apprentice resolution limit, that presents a problem. Still, very cool to read up on.
