Macha
Has anybody had persistent freezing of Houdini 12 on Linux? Houdini locks up but is seemingly not doing anything. An strace reveals threads waiting for 'something'. Sounds familiar? Post a shout! Edited July 9, 2012 by Macha
moondeer
my freezing on macintosh was fixed when i backed down to a lower version of opengl in the houdini prefs. linux is way up there at opengl 4.1 i believe. on mac, i had to back down to the houdini 11 option. even opengl 2.1 was causing some problems. in windows, if openCL calculations were on, and the simulation exceeded the VRAM of the card, then the whole computer ran haltingly thereafter until reboot. just my initial thoughts. oh, and i have had long wait times (spinning beachball of death) when my network was having trouble. houdini performance is closely tied to your network performance. an odd ethernet card or a low vram video card can grind the lot to a halt.
