cool1986vfx
Hey everyone, Who know how to bake simulation RBD to keys in Houdini? like shapes with key frames without simulations on finish? And also possibly send that animation through fbx to Maya? or any else ways can do that? Thanks Best Regards Evgeny. Ratman
Done it in the past by exporting out a chan file for each RBD piece, and then in Maya I wrote a script that would read in a obj for each RBD piece and read the chan file and apply the animation back to the geometry. A little cumbersome, but easy enough if you know Mel/Python.
Scratch
in general, it is done by exporting a geometry-sequence (one model for every frame, eg. obj). This sequence of models is then imported into maya, where you can render it or do everything else you need to do.
cool1986vfx
to Scratch I try to import in Maya Bgeo, I dont know, but this is not work, Maya every time break down, and files is not very weight, can u write in deep steps how u do that please. to Ratman, I see how do that sinchronize with maya very good deal, I am also try up both server between Maya and houdini , this is works, but I have not very many expirience with python , I do not know wich comand need write for sending in Maya( Thanks Again. Scratch
No worries, here is a more indepth explaination how it works: build your geometry inside houdini. At the end of the sop-network, attach a ROP Output Driver. Where it says output file, configer it something like this $HIP/test_§F4.obj if you change (manually typing!) the file-extention, houdini will recognize and export obj instead of bgeo. There is no menue for this, just type the file-extention you want to have, and it will work (at least for me it did, I aswell do not know everything in every detail). the §F4 part is the frame padding so that you end up with a sequence, and the 4 sais make the padding 4 digis, starting with 0000. If you need more or less digits, just type the number you like. E.g when you have only 100 frames to export, you also can get away with §F3, starting with 000, ending with 100. Here you can find some more information on filename syntax: http://odforce.net/wiki/index.php/FilenameSyntax For more information on supported file formats visit this link: http://odforce.net/wiki/index.php/FileFormats Further reading: OBJ Files Across Maya and Houdini http://hurdfx.blogspot.co.at/2011/06/houdini-notebook-4-obj-files-across.html hope that helps a bit more
cool1986vfx
hey Thanks Scratch, I needed to try that, also Yesterday I try export dynamics with FBX , and this is works, I don`t know why but all animation is export and reads from fpc folder cash inside Maya. look at the pictures in attachment Thanks Again. mangi
Hi if you happen to be on maya 2013 you can use PIPELINE CACHE From houdini in Outputs drop in a Alembic node Then in maya 2013 use the Import Alembic It will be one big file I would first bake the RBD into houdini´s geo formate first mangi Edited August 7, 2012 by mangi
mangi
here´s a real simple test. Alembic . is really fast All what you are after is the sim , not a reconstruction of an FBX that will bring in all that extra data Cheer Mangi hou_rbd.mov movies.mov alambic.hip sim.hip alembic.mb alembic_exported.abc.rar Edited August 7, 2012 by mangi
mangi
Ratman´s method is before almebic came out, yes I did also use these methods. try Alembic you will be impressed. You do not have to deal with all of those extra files (sequences) It´s all in one. easy to manage , may get big files sizes mangi
