csp
Hi, I would like to achieve the effect of smoke trails which are coming from the center of an explosion. I have already the explosion simulation. I tried by emitting from particles as you can see in the attached file, but I cant get them to look as good as this: http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/5454/sa6destructionff1.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/34fhfnb.png http://i52.tinypic.com/2njhxfk.jpg any ideas or tips? thanks in advance. smoke_trails.hip
dzigakaiser
I would lower the inheritance of the particle's velocity, so that the trails don't move so fast. This is the first thing that comes to my mind looking at your scene. I'm not sure if timescale or more FPS would help to get a smoother trail that's not broken up. Unfortunately, I can't give you more advice as I am used to do this kind of effects with FumeFX and don't get the hang of it in Houdini yet. Hope I could help anyway Edit: Additionally, your particles could use some gravity for a interesting curved trail. woodenduck
Hi, I've tweaked a few parameters and got something a little closer to what you are after I think. The main issue was with your pop network. If you get the shape right in there the sim pretty much takes care of itself. I added a point sop and some randomly sized normals before the popnet. The particles will inherit this as velocity (if set to inherit vel) so play with this to get them emitting at more varying speeds. Then it was just a case of tweaking the split pop and adding some animated noise in the source volume. Once you have that source looking the way you want, write it out to disk. You will save a lot of time when you come to run the sim. I didn't even go in to the dopnet, as I don't have the time right now. But I'm sure there is plenty more you can do to refine it! smoke_trails_v02.hip
csp
woodenduck thanks for your time to check on my file and tweak it. As long I was in bournemouth, I specialized to destruction, now I have to learn more about fluid simulations. dzigakaiser thanks for your advice.
