abvfx
Hey there, Im wondering what are the recommended shading models or setup when working with cloth. Any-time i research the topic for RSL shaders its all about satin and silks and im really just looking for something like polyester or cotton. I'm texturing a character wearing a suit and lambertian just doesn't look like the way to go. Im currently testing an oren-nayar model but im kinda lost. btw I'm just curious about the shading component at the moment, texture/pattern generation is being dealt with by hand, though im sure later i would like to explore a more procedural approach. Any links, pointers are greatly appreciated.
mightcouldb1
I think that Oren-Nayer is the best shading model for cloth because it was created to simulate the light reflectance of rough surfaces. If you want to read more about it you can download the original paper in PDF form here: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.10.8696 You can also try adding a little spec as well and not going purely diffuse as it can look lackluster when around other reflective/specular surfaces in the same scene.
abvfx
Yeah looks like its the best route to take for the moment. Might aswell create it from scratch since it would be a ton more faster. Im thinking a rim lit component would be useful/required.
