LouisXIV
Hi there, I'm very curious about instancing and rendering ifd files. I copy a simple geometry via the instance SOP onto 300.000 points. When I render from Houdini Gui (Mantra Node) directly, everything is fine and fast. As soon as i create a ifd and render it via terminal..... houdini takes realllly long to instance the points..... Has anybody an idea why it could take so much more time? I attached the .hip file..... Thanks in advance... Cheers Martin pointinstancetest_problem.hip Edited January 17, 2013 by LouisXIV
sanostol
Hi, just tried it, and it works like expected ifd is written in no time, there are some errors with bad parameter references, but nothing that stops rendering `mantra -f instance_test_v001.2.ifd` takes about 30 secs to finish the rendering not sure what's going wrong try mantra -f instance_test_v001.2.ifd -V 1a or higher to get some info, check if You use the right mantra version Edited January 23, 2013 by sanostol
LouisXIV
Hey, thanks for your effort and taking the time to test my file. the -V 1a command gave me good infos.. there where some weird permission problems on my machine... dont know exactly but it works now. We had the same problem on our Renderfarm wich is also fixed. One render node renderd multiple frame,so they got memory issues wich made the instancing slow.... cheers
