Question on IK solver

In the InversKin chop there's basically two modes that you can use - the default IK solver with the twist effector, or the IK solver with with Constraints, which then pays attention to the bone's xyz rotation limit settings. However if you use the Constraints IK solver, then you lose the possibility of having a twist effector. Is there a way to have both? I tried using the default IK solver with a Limits Chop, but it definitely does NOT work the same at all, so I don't think that's the right way.

Would an alternate solution be to insert a Null obj between the root bone and it's parent, and then rotate this null to simulate the twist?
