aracid
Hey, I'd like to bake out a shadow map and re use it in a similar fashion to how you can do it in PRman? So basically, I bake out a file that is my shadow map and instead of Mantra recalculating the shadow for each frame, I want it to just call on that shadow map file. Please any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance! later aracid
Jason
In the light object, put a filename in the Depth Map field and set the generate to nearest-, or mid-point. Now apply a shadowshader (like VEX Shadow) which has the same filename in it to the light. Remember to look through your light and make sure its looking at your subject properly. Hit render and it'll generate the shadowmap and the render. Now you can turn the generate method to off and re-render as many times as you like. Hope this helps, Jason

aracid
shot for the help, thats it's exactly what i was looking for. im from SA (joburg-aswell). funny cause i actually had a chat with u over the phone while u were still at the refinery. around 1999, just before u left, however i've been there recently and it looks like they've scrapped houdini from their tool box. i'm currently studying film, doing VFX stuff on the side, was using maya, but now i've seen the light!!! looks like DD got alot of SA guys in there. thats awesome guys - well done! anyways, once again thanks for the help all the best aracid
