Some fluid questions

From the things I have read I gather that some scenes are better handled by SPH fluids than FLIP fluids.

 

1)  Is this scene one of them? The size is small, 2x2meters. Should I use Sph instead of Flip?

 

2)  Why are the particles moving so fast? I have vel=0 in the source volume so I'd expect something like a free fall/ dripping kinda look. Should I add friction?

 

3)  Is there there a performance difference if I add static /collision objects with the shelf button or with a source volume?
