Exclude objects from diffuse bounces

is it possible to exclude some objects from the diffuse calculation, for example I want a very large geometry not to be used for diffuse bounces, but instead a much lighter version of it. something like secondary rays of. In my case I want the objects to be lit by a textured grid and not all the grasspatches on on it

try:

 

light geo set to Phantom on the Geo/Render tab

heavy geo - put "-diffuse" in shop/material/surfaceModel/Diffuse/Diffuse Component.

 

See attached: red torus has no diffuse bounce whilst green torus is only diffuse bouncing.
