Guest tar
One of the best bits of the Indie license is getting into the business side of things. It's so cool asking others advice on business, their experiences and then applying that to your own gig. If you every go back to employment it's just so much more dull - being simply a worker. Guest tar
Robert Magee talks Houdini Indie at Siggraph http://blog.digitaltutors.com/siggraph-2014-news-interview-sidefx-houdini-indie/
keyframe007
I hopped on board with Indie and after watching the sidefx presentations and talking to the side fx team at Siggraph. Only been using it for a week but I can already do things that I can't dream of doing in Maya and I have been a Maya user since V3. I don't mind the annual rental at all due to reasons listed above. I am not going to be using Houdini 13 yearsr from now so I would gladly pay $200 a year and have access to the latest version and daily builds. Ok back to learning Houdini
jim c
Does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Non-Commercial Renderman renderer when it comes out with Indie? Or are we limited to only using Mantra?
ErtanK
Looking at the product comparison chart at SESI it seems that HE does not support 3rd party rendering. http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=219&Itemid=
Guest tar
It strikes me that given the fact I can lease Houdini Indie for 22 consecutive years before it passes the price that a single commercial FX license would cost me right now, it rather undermines the whole "but I won't have access to it once the license expires!" argument. I reckon one's goal should be to have to purchase workstation licensed HoudiniFX i.e. you're earning over 100K Edited August 28, 2014 by tar
