magneto
Is SESI going to fight back with H14? The state changes look very good.
Solitude
I don't think SESI really needs to fight back. They are still ahead of the curve by far. All those things are do-able in Houdini, albeit some are going to be a bit trickier. TP really does do a good job of making some of the state changes really easy, but the features presented in the video is not very impressive. The sph solver in that video doesn't look impressive at all... I could see somebody using it for a blood squirt or something, but what kind of particle counts have they gotten with it? What kind of sim times? Things I hope for with Houdini would be unified rbd workflow between the old rbd system and bullet (constraints / animated objects /packed prims should work regardless of what sovler I'm using). Faster old-style rbd solver would be nice, and it would also be nice to get cloth/fem to have less hacky two-way interaction with bullet / rbds / flip, etc. Otherwise, the ripple solver with bouyancy is easy enough to create in Houdini, and the new packed prim rbds make joints and rbds really easy. It would be cool to get the other bullet stuff implemented as options in Houdini, (bt-rope (can make this with joints right now) / bt-cloth bt-vehicle vs wire solver/fem/custom joint setup) but again, there's nothing mind-blowing in that video. I just hope SESI continues what they are doing and makes it easier to get things playing well with each other... P.S. I think you know this already, but I'm an ex-TP user. I would still use it if I was at a Max studio, but would certainly prefer sticking with Houdini. P.S.2. Their new price point is a big improvement.
