Yader
Hi guys, in Softimage one can take a curve and convert it to a polygonal mesh with the ability to find the medial axis of a given letter. Is this in Houdini also possible? See attached image. (Crossposted this on the sidefx forum, hope that's ok Edited January 12, 2015 by Yader
freaq
afraid there is currently no medial axis in Houdini Proper.however you are not the only one to desire this feature
Robert
Is the result in the attachment what you were looking for? It is quite messy and you would need to reconstruct the curves somehow, but the points of the output should lie on the medial axis. createMedialAxis.hipnc
Yader
Thanks very much for your efforts Robert, I think this sets me on the right path. One question regarding the point sop. What exactly does it do with the second Input? Thanks again. Edited January 27, 2015 by Yader
Robert
The example was dwelling somewhere in my archives and is old so I'm not quite sure what the exact reason was but what the point SOP does is transform the circle to match the input curves. It's basically a way to convert the input curves to nurbs curves. I'm not sure why I didn't just use a convert node or just left the input as polygons, so you could probably just ignore that part.
