Mayankesh
Here is a WIP of a project I am doing for a healthcare firm. Any feedback & pointers are welcome. https://vimeo.com/120359512
gui
Nice, but I don´t think FEM is the better solution for that. Did you try just using blendshapes?
Mayankesh
Hi Gui, yes I tried blendshapes. But I was not getting the seamless connection between animated part and rest geometry. With FEM I get advantage of damping and constraint. I am still learning and trying to refine it more.
zoki
I think even old inflate and spring sop could pull this off
Mayankesh
I think even old inflate and spring sop could pull this off Oh never heard and used inflate. I can look into that. Any tips for them?
Guest tar
You could use FEM to reach the desired shapes, them write those shapes out as BGeo, then use BlendSop between them for the speed and animation look.

Thanks Marty, This is very useful. Very good technique though.

Will definetly look into this.
Netvudu
I´m no expert in anatomy, but doesn´t the heart show some kind of secondary motion from the heartbeats? After the main animation, be it sim or deform ,I would run for CHOPs, but that´s just me.
jordibares
Independently of the technique to do this kind of work for medical purposes, this is an area that is extraordinarily hard due to the needs of accuracy and thus you may want to have a senior heart surgeon expert to assist you. At Glassworks we have a division dedicated to heart training (Heartworks) and the level of accuracy is insane. To the point of scanning a real heart and construct the motion from the most accurate measurements you can get. Is a piece of software built from the ground up (OpenGL based) and it has been on development for around 10 years with the help of some of the top surgeons in the world. It is commercialised as a product and you can buy it, inducing pathology modules for training, etc... http://www.inventivemedical.com jb

I am still working to refine it and hopefully incorporate other things.
