Shuey1971
Hi, So I'm trying to merge two sets of Point cloud data. The file format for the data is an Alembic. I've imported them both successfully as you can see in picture 1. How do I merge them and connect them into one. They're both the same amount of frames Frame 59-2053. I want to connect them so they're one object or set of point clouds and create some kind of abstract movement. I've posted a photo of what I'm trying to accomplish but it's doing it in 3Ds Max. edward
Try using the Alembic SOP to load your .abc file instead.
Shuey1971
What exactly is the Alembic SOP? How do I access the SOP? I'm currently importing it through the Alembic import options and they look fabulous. I just need to know how to manipulate the pixels and so and connect them into one 3D model/form rather than 2 separate sets of data. I'm using this reference page and documentation on Alembic file, there's not too much on the SOP. Also, how do I change each point, there are several points in the cloud to say a geometry triangle? So each point is a sphere or a triangle or some kind of solid geometry, if you can try to go into detail on where to start, tutorials, etc. Still trying to accomplish what I posted in the other thread. Also, please bare with my through this learning curve, my deepest apologies. Your posts in the other thread helped tremendously. Thanks! Shuey1971
Also Edward, I'm sure you're very busy but what are the chances I could send you the two Alembic files and you could play around with them and I can learn from those files? Feel free to bluntly let me know if this is out of the question and I'm being ridiculous and asking for too much. Let me know if you want me to explain what I'm trying to do and what I'm doing in my project now. Thanks, Shu Edited April 8, 2015 by Shuey1971
Guest tar
AlembicSOP sits inside a Geo node. Steps are: 1. tab key over Network view - type 'geo' hit enter key 2. press 'i' to dive inside, delete the node that's there and tab key, type 'Alembic', press enter key. This is the AlembicSOP
Shuey1971
Hey thanks. So I did that and it comes up as 'alembic1' but it's empty. Nowhere in the nodes setting does it have an import section. I tried importing the alembic through the setting but it shows up in a whole separate obj and not a part of the AlembicSop. The SOP just sits there within an empty geo1 and there's nothing in there. edward
Once you create the SOP, you have to change the value of its Filename parameter to your .abc file. To honest, I think you should probably go through of the basic Houdini tutorials to know your way around a little bit first.
