magneto
Hi, I am wondering if it still makes sense to learn older cloth solvers that were in pre-H14? I know there are a lot of people who prefer ncloth, etc but Houdini cloth changing almost every release, should one learn the older ones if they are only gonna use the latest version? Also are the old solvers completely removed from the latest version or just hidden? Because I read people complaining not being able to do tearing and were forced to use the older versions of Houdini. In these cases, can one unhide these older nodes or is it much harder than that since a lot more nodes and setup is involved so harder to replicate by hand? Thanks
Guest tar
Tearing should be enabled in the latest H14 - check the help for an example. The older nodes do not appear to be hidden, but replaced.
magneto
Thanks marty. So if they are replaced, is there a reason to learn them other than just glancing at the methods? Because cloth just like any sim related stuff seems very specific to the solver and workflow so might be hard to apply to the latest solvers. Guest tar
The cloth in 12.5 is faster than the latest cloth, but apart from that - nope. H14 Fem is the future of cloth.

magneto
Also on the topic of cloth, I read a lot of people here who love using ncloth. I am not a cloth expert but looking at the ncloth help file, it seems rather easy to recreate in Houdini: http://download.autodesk.com/us/maya/2009help/index.html?url=nCloth_overview_nCloth_introduction.htm,topicNumber=d0e468452 Did anyone try recreating this system in Houdini? What challenges are present that prevents one from achieving this? If ncloth is this good, I have a hard time imagining it can not be created in Houdini without using the HDK.
