Rus
Hey guys,I'm trying to build a smoke simulation, and I want to know how can I controll smoke swirl or vorticity. It's based on smoke solver (not pyro solver). In Maya Fludis we have "swirl" attribute, in FumeFx and PhoenixFD its "vorticity", is there any equivalent to this in Houdini?Right now I'm using 2 Gas Turbulence microsolvers with different "swirl" sizes and Turbulence levels - is this a corret way to get a swirling smoke?I also tried Gas Disturbance - but I got some wierd shapes. I got a couple examples of what i'm talking about:this is Phoenix FDhttps://vimeo.com/86036787 Maya Fluids https://vimeo.com/51856494 - (for those who is not familiar with Maya Fludis) in this example there is no "turbulence", the "swirl" parameter makes all the curly motion. Not sure how to explane it. This one is really nice toohttps://vimeo.com/126576359Thanks. Edited June 29, 2015 by Rus
rolfcoppter
What comes to mind is the curl noise parameter found in the emitter settings . If its not check out this RND of pyro settings for a visual aid to find what your looking for.
Rus
Thanks rolfcoppter.I'm using particles as emitter, and I think curl noise isn't exactly what I want. But I'll give that a try. Thank you. Any other suggestions more than welcome.
jkunz07
I think it would be the vorticity confinement on pyro solver or if your using the smome solver you can use the gasvortexconfinement microsolve. This will boost existing swirling motion instead of injecting turbulence.
Rus
Thanks jkunz07 I'll give that a shot right now.
Rus
Okay so here is what I got.https://youtu.be/98xuZ8PgAVk It's better than it was before, and there is not much difference but I like 02 more than 01. On this tests I used Gas Turbulence and Gas Disturbance microsolvers, I also tied Gasvortexconfinement and Gasvortexequalizer - but didn't like the results. And I have a new question - I've heard that it's possible to advect color by already cached simulation. Something like a "post sim", not sure. So how can I set that up?
