yesyes
the one you have is good. dell makes precision m4800 and m3800 for professional work which uses quadro cards. gaming cards are better for the price.

yesyes
i also had modest laptop, instead of purchasing new laptop I went for CPU with fast processor etc. IMO doing huge sims of CPU is better. you don't always do sims so even without 24/7 electricity you can pul alot of work from it and it will cost lot lesser for same specs.
