sibarrick
Hi all, I thought I'd give Linux a try on my laptop since I had to reinstall the operating system anyway. Everything was going fine until I installed Houdini and tried to use the help. First off nothing happened, no help. The shell reported hbrowser had crashed or not started, can't remember which. Then I found I couldn't browse the internet any more nor could I browse anything on the machine. Houdini seems to have totally wiped out konquerer. Not knowing much about Linux I gave up and rebooted, that didn't help and now Houdini won't run any more either. In the end I rebooted into windows and came here to look for help. Wasn't sure what flavour of Linux to use so I went with Mandrake 10.1, since a mate at work had a copy already burned on DVD, it comes with KDE3.2. Any ideas gratefully recieved, up until that point I'd been very happy with the whole Linux thing ( apart from not being able to play DVD's everything seemed peachy )
michael
not much help...but I think the new help system is all java stuff...so I guess you could make sure that you have java running right.... stupid java...I hate you.
sibarrick
Well I installed all the java modules I could find and still no joy. Then found that the houdini_setup_bash file looks for the wrong version of java so changed that, still no joy Then installed tcsh and ran houdini_setup and that did the trick. Help now working....
