5dn
Dear Forumers, I need to create a shader for a 12" vinyl record. I have tried many things so far like having a bump map of 4k noise texture radially blurred, as people have suggested to me. This has not worked so I want to actually have a realistic bump map like the actual groove of a record. How would one go about modelling and rendering at 4K a spiral with some noise, one like the groove of an actual record? Thanks, Not very Houdini adept yet so any help much appreciated. Cheers. Nick. konstantin magnus
hi nick, this should be solved in shader context, i think. you will get problems with moiré either way, though. apart from that you will need much more than just a bump map to mimick all the effects occurring on a disc. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schallplatte#/media/File:Afn_record_40cm.jpg disc.hiplc Edited November 19, 2015 by konstantin magnus
