Auto re-cache a sop file node to disk when upstream changes are made?

Recommended Posts

If you have a file node set to automatic, the first time you play through the sequence if there are no cache files present it will automatically write them to disk. However it will continue to read that same sequence and will never recache anything again unless you explicitly set it to write files.

What I would like to know is if you can somehow set it to automatically detect any upstream changes and auto-recache that sequence without you having to explicitly do so.

Basic example, in a pyro sim where you are tweaking both the source and pyro settings, but the source is heavy and needs to be pre-cached. I would like to be able to make changes to the source and when I play through the pyro sim it will automatically recache the source, then read back the updated data next time I ram cache the sim.

Nuke has this functionality somewhat, if you select 'read from write' on a write node, it will read back in the file sequence but if any upstream changes are made it will error out. But at least it recognizes it.
