keltuzar
I was having this discussion with my friend and he thinks Visual Effects is a stream that encompasses everything from particle effects right down to rotoscoping and compositing. I however disagree and I think Visual effect begins and ends with the making and packaging and rendering of particle simulations. So am I wrong to say that? Or do you too feel the same way? michael
I'm afraid your friend is right... http://www.answers.com/visual+effects&r=67 these days I think it breaks down into 'special' and 'visual' where special is anythink you can touch - makeup, miniatures, practical explosions etc and visual would be anything done using a computer (which would include comp, grading etc)
stu
Hmmm...I always lumped "special effects" with those effects captured "in camera", "on the day". Visual effects to me were any manipulations performed later, whether they were achieved optically, digitally, or by scratching the negative with a rusty nail stu. pbowmar
I'll go with Stu as well, another term is "practical" effect which is done on set. Of course, the line blurs when you have miniature photography combined with bluescreen or digital enhancements...
