diffuse contribution per light source

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The documentation says that I could create image plan per light source, e.g. I can output the direct diffuse contribution per light source. To do so, I enabled: Mantra Node--> Extra Image Planes --> Direct Lighting (Per Component). However, when I check my rendering folder, I see ONE diffuse image plan for all lights in the scene and Not every light source.

For complex scenes with many lights, it can be useful to export the “Direct Reflect” layer using the “Per Light” option. This will allow you isolate the specific lights that are causing noise in your scene, allowing you to increase sampling only on the offending light sources.

Is there an automatic way to output the rendering contribution per light source as mentioned in the documentation above?

UPDATE: I found this link and in 2012 having contribution per light source was not that easy...I am not sure if this has changed in 2016 :) I don't think having light contribution per light source is that important, it's just mentioned a lot in Houdini documentation to troubleshoot noise and I thought it would be possible to have it out of the box!

For some reason I can't upload an image or post an attachment for you so, the best I can do is try and tell you:

Under Extra Image planes tab in the Mantra ROP, change export components to be just diffuse (if you just want diffuse). Lower down from that, add one extra image plane and under the vex variable drop down, change it to direct lighting (per component). Lower down from that, you will see light exports. Change that to: Export Variable for each light.
