About Caching Simulations

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have cached my simulation so it makes the simulation faster later on. However when I click save to disk in background, it does not cache all of the frames that I want, which is from frame 1 to frame 240. On the Render Scheduler, it shows that the job is 100%, but when I check inside the folder, it only cached up to frame 211. The previous time I did it, it only cached up to frame 140. Before I started caching, I made sure to check the frame range and I am pretty sure I have set it from 1 to 240.

I was wondering if anyone had this problem before and how should I fix this? And when this happens, it also doesn't show that there are any errors, so if I didn't check my folder for the cache files, I wouldn't have noticed that it didn't finish caching all the frames.

Thank you

Eunice

On your rop make sure you toggle on: Initialize Simulation OPs

From Dosc: http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/nodes/out/geometry

Forces all simulation OPs to be reset. This includes DOP Networks, POP SOPs, and other OPs that cache their results.

This is the safest way to render out a simulation, because it starts the simulation from scratch and discards any partial simulations you might have done with different parameters.

Plus - Don't use a file node set to write as this will also cause similar problems.
