Creating Nodes for Emissive and opacity textures

I'm fairly new to Houdini and I've run into a slight hurdle. I'm trying to create a object that grows by using particles and smoke. I know that in Maya I would have used a Emissive and Alpha map to control the emission of the particle, but for the live of me, I can't figure out how to do this in Houdini. There are no Houdini instructors at my college which is inconvenient.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
