Rafal123
Hi people, Can someone explain how second example "pcCloud", from pointCloudsPresentation on Exchange, works? There is a particle object and simple sphere geo. Sphere doesn't interesect with particles but after rendering it does.
Mario Marengo
As far as I can see, it uses a point cloud to speed up the lighting (and self-shadowing) calculation. Instead of sampling at each step in the march, it samples/shades neighbouring cloud points and filters them over some radius. But Luca visits here sometimes, so maybe he can give you a more in-depth explanation.

I can barely remeber my presentation, but I assume that you guys are talking about the fog shader that uses point clouds. As Mario noted, the lighting is calculated on the points in the point cloud rather than at each point in the raymarch. As I remember it there was a fairly significant flaw with my shader that Andrew Clinton managed to track down. I can't remeber what it was, maybe Andrew might remember. Andrew?
