Texturemapping A Hyperboloid In Real Life?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals! I have a customer that wants to print letters and an image around a glass-sculpture that has a hyperboloid shape. There are two alternatives, one being laser and well be using a cylindrical map that is projected onto the shape and I have to make sure there are no stretching of the textureimage, which is pretty straight forward. The other one being a plastic film with that is wrapped around the shape and it should have the least amount of pieces, this one being the mindbending one.

Here is a link to the shape in wiki.

To anyone know how to map this type of object?

So what you need is just an unwrapped hiperboloid?

Perhaps some tools will unwrap it without distorting polygons, I've never used uv pelt though. But if everything fails you can always build it cleanly from the least possible nr of polygons and unwrap the mesh by hand or apply per face projection and rebuild the object. It's not time consuming for such a simple object.
