Burning Vellum Feedback

I'm trying to find a good way of doing a burning/disintegrating vellum effect and so far the best way I found was to separate then stitch each primitive together and break their constraints when they reach a threshold of decay.

 

This works great for simple patterns of decay, but when there are break ups in that pattern the end result is pretty ugly even though it's a lot nicer in the sim.


Does anyone have any feedback or ideas on how to achieve this effect?
