How can I color a mesh by using uv coordinates of a color atlas?

Hello

Say I have a box that has vertex color green. is it possible match the vertex colors to the pixel color of an atlas, and move those points to the appropriate uv space?

Im stuck on how to go about this, and was seeing if anyone had any ideas.  Thanks!
