Large Scale Ocean and Beach Waves

Hey all,

Does anyone have any workflow tips for creating large scale ocean and waves. whether it's procedural, or with a simulation. Looking to do a beach from mid-size height, probably a couple of km's high.

I was thinking about using the spectrum blended with many flip sims for the coast, but that could get quite heavy with a lot of geometry that might not be needed in the distance. So just wondered if anyone had done this in a smart, efficient way.
