Willa
Im starting to use kinefx for rigging. I setup a ikchain sop of 3 bones but as soon as I start moving the tip bone with rigpose the ikchain quickly exhibits gimble lock popping when the tip bone gets close to the mid bone. As a result the bonedeform twists the mesh into a ugly mess. Are there any links to helpful tutorials that show how to resolve this? Here is a link to a movie I made to illustrate the issue Edited September 3, 2021 by Willa adding movie link
kushaldas
Did you add a rigpose and offset the knee forward before the ikchain sop? I haven't played with too much KineFX rigging, but that was the workflow in the SideFX Fur Dude tutorial to stop ik flipping - https://www.sidefx.com/tutorials/kinefx-rigging-fur-dude/
willh
So what you are expierincing is not gimble lock. you have to move the pole vector foreward in order for ik to evaluate propperly. The pole vector indicates in which direction the knee is facing, if you dont move the knee(pole vector) it will flip.
willh
as you can see in the video, the knee is trying to face the pole vector but because the knee overlaps the pole vector you get flipping.
