Python make node preplacement ghost

Hey

I was wondering how i would be able to have nodes represented as their "pre placement ghost".

An example of this is if you hit "Tab" and tried to place a sphere where you can move your mouse around and drag this "ghost" around. Then when you click it, it would place the sphere in your network editor.
I'm trying to get a similar functionality but i can't seem to find a function that does this, I saw a video a while ago now as to what looked like a python script that had this functionality but i can't seem to find that video to reference here sadly.
But from what i saw the script would save a slection of nodes to a file then allowed you to place the selection of nodes again by using this "ghosting" method. It was able to do multiple connected nodes.
