Pyrosource in geo or pyrosolver in dopnet, what's the difference?

Hello. I'm still getting confused at basics it seems. What's the difference with approach making smoke using basically what the billowy smoke tool from the shelf does VS creating pyrosolver in dopnet? (with source volume and smoke sparse object). I've tried both, and on the second approach couldn't make smoke rise, can't give it a temperature. Are there any pros doing it from scratch in dopnet instead of making pyro source, rasterize it and creating pyrosolver in obj level?
