How do I generate a Curve based on the path followed by the centroid of an animated Geometry?

Recommended Posts

Let's say I have a Cube that I animate in some random way by keyframing the Transform SOP. How do I get what I have drawn in Red as a Curve? i.e. The path followed by the centroid of the Cube?

The following is the solution I received:

Use Extract Centroid SOP in Run Over Mode Detail to get the centroid, put a RigDoctor SOP after, then a Motion Clip SOP, then a Motion Clip Extract SOP with Output Mode set to Motion Trails

That's a cool way to do it for me personally I would also Extract the Centroid but use the Trail SOP instead in the Trail Sop set your Trail Length to the end frame number of your animation and below your Trail SOP throw in an Add SOP in there select (polygon) and then (By Group) and BAM you have yourself a path.

And if you want to keep your curve throw in a Time Shift SOP and set it to your end animation frame number.

The reason I would do it like this is that the RigDoctor, Motion Clip, and Motion Clip Extract SOP adds a lot of unnecessary data but maybe you want that I don't know.
